Enroll during Special Enrollment if you have a “qualifying life event” now through October 31, 2017.

Below is a list of common qualifying life events for Special Enrollment:

  • Lost your health coverage – you lose health coverage through your job or you’re no longer eligible for Medi-Cal

  • Turned 26 years old – you’re no longer eligible to stay on your parents’ plan

  • Changed your place of residency – you’ve moved to California from another state or outside your plan’s coverage area. This also applies to individuals who are released from jail or prison.

  • Had a baby, adopted a child, became a foster parent

  • Getting married or entering a domestic partnership

You have 60 days from the date on which the qualifying life event occurs to enroll in a Covered California health insurance plan or change your existing Covered California plan.

If 60 days pass without signing up for health coverage, you will have to wait until the next open enrollment period, which will be November 1, 2016.
